Roots in Movement is a skateboard deck series inspired by ImillaSkate, a Bolivian women’s skate collective that celebrates Indigenous identity within skate culture. The three designs combine symbols of Indigenous Bolivian heritage, femininity, and skateboarding culture to highlight cultural pride, strength, and self-expression.
Rebellious Ñatita
The design visually represents a Bolivian tradition connected to Todos Santos (the country’s observance of the Day of the Dead). Ñatitas are human skulls believed to offer protection and good fortune, commonly decorated with flowers and hats. The cantuta connect with femininity, the cholita hat connect to Bolivian identity, while the skull also represents the fearlessness and rebellion of skate culture.
Urban Weave
is designed to resemble a traditional Bolivian textile, where geometric patterns and the Andean cross are commonly woven together. The checkered pattern also reflects the Wiphala, an Indigenous Andean flag, while connecting to the visual style and movement of skate culture. Together, these elements create an intentional blend of traditional craft, Indigenous identity, and contemporary skate culture.
Sacred Fire
centers Pachamama, Mother Earth in Indigenous Andean belief. The flames reference the Bolivian tradition of the k’oa, a ritual in which offerings are burned to honor Pachamama and ask for protection and prosperity, while also representing energy and rebellion in skate culture. The horns come from the China Supay of the traditional Diablada dance, connecting two powerful female figures within one intentional design.
